Pandora ran an op-ed in The Hill yesterday attacking ASCAP's efforts to protect fair compensation for its members from the online music streaming service. Read ASCAP President and Chairman and songwriter Paul Williams's response here.

The ASCAP member and composer was appointed as the new Music Director of CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra on Tuesday, May 28th. He will make his first appearance as the orchestra’s second music director in October 2013.

The ASCAP member and Grammy-nominated composer and clarinetist has been appointed as Artistic Director of the American Composers Orchestra, it was announced on May 22nd at a benefit dinner in New York City. Bermel will hold the position for a three year term, beginning with the 2013-14 season.

Drew will be responsible for overseeing the ASCAP Membership Creative Services staff in all musical genres and will also oversee the operations of the LA, New York and Nashville membership offices. The promotion was announced on May 21st by ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento.

The ASCAP member and Pulitzer Prize-winning Chinese composer has been awarded the $25,000 cash prize. The largest prize of its kind, the Stoeger Prize is given every two years in recognition of significant contributions to the field of chamber music composition.

The two ASCAP composers have been granted this prestigious title as part of a nationwide initiative to expand artistic and personal freedom for creative leaders in the fields of jazz, contemporary dance and theatre.

The Polar Music Prize is awarded to individuals, groups or institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements in the creation and advancement of music. The two ASCAP affiliates will receive the international music prize at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on August 27th, 2013.

ASCAP's 2013 General Annual Membership Meeting was held on Thursday, April 18th at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. The meeting kicked off the 2013 ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO, the annual three-day conference for music creators featuring educational and inspiring panels, networking opportunities and exhibits.

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) inducted Oscar and Golden Globe-winning ASCAP composer Elliot Goldenthal into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23rd. Goldenthal is a prolific writer of music for orchestra, theater, opera, ballet and film.

The ASCAP composer was named a musical composition winner in the annual Rome Prize competition during a formal ceremony at the Metropolitan Club in New York City on Thursday, April 18th, 2013.

While the afterglow of this year’s eighth annual ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO still burns, here’s a look back at some of the highlights, from lessons learned to great photo and video moments from the heart of it all in Hollywood.

Illinois State University will premiere the new 18-minute work titled “Only Air” for soprano and orchestra. The piece memorializes the gay teens who have committed suicide due to anti-gay bullying, and was commissioned by Dr. Glenn Block and the ISU Symphony.
