(l-r): Devin Powers, Damon Harman, Kari Kimmel & Jeff Silbar at a recent ReNew Orleans fundraiser

ASCAP Members help to
ReNew Orleans

ASCAP composer/songwriter Devin Powers, winner of a 2006 ASCAP Film/TV award in the "Most Performed Underscore" category, and his partner, C.E.O. of DNA Creative Media Damon Harman, recently joined forces with fellow songwriters, philanthropists, corporations and media partners to fund ReNew Orleans, a multi-faceted campaign to help rebuild New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Armed with a spirit of social responsibility and fueled by the vision of rebuilding the ravaged city of New Orleans, ReNew Orleans' immediate goal is to construct the Comiskey Park Community Center in Mid-City New Orleans. The 23,000 square foot facility, being funded through brand sponsorships and individual donations, will include spaces dedicated to athletics and arts & crafts, as well as a media center, recording studio and computer lab.

ReNew Orleans is currently in production for a three-part branded documentary series hosted by Louis Gossett Jr., which focuses on the importance of rejuvenating and restoring "The Big Easy." Powers and ASCAP member Jeff Silbar co-wrote the series' theme song "Hope 'n Harmony," which will be sung by country-rock legend Leon Russell. The first episode will also feature "Rewrite the Song," written by Powers in collaboration with ASCAP songwriter Kari Kimmel. And Ringo Starr is slated to add his drumming and singing talents to "Pass It On," another Powers/Silbar collaboration.
